On Saturday, November 16, 2013, the Allston-Brighton Kiwanis Club will be celebrating their 35th Anniversary at American Legion Post #440 (Nonantum) 295 California Street Newton, MA.

The Club continues to meet and to do good things for the community. The major fundraising event is Kiwanis Star (based on American Idol), which is held every year in early March. Kiwanis is able to bring in over $5,000.00 at this one event and distribute it to local nonprofits that are involved with youth. Kennedy Day School at the Franciscan Children’s Hospital has been a regular beneficiary, and others have included the Jackson-Mann Community Center, Oak Square (Brighton) YMCA Teen Programs, West End House Girls Camp, the Fishing Academy, Allston Street Fair,  the Brian J. Honan Foundation, and the Allston-Brighton Little League.

The evening will feature great food (buffet catered by Marc Kadish of Patron’s in Allston), cash bar, great entertainment (Eastern Standard Time Barbershop Quartet), inspiring speeches (short and to the point), friendly people, some surprises, and a lot of pride!

Please try to attend – it will be a great evening of camaraderie and nostalgia.  Bring a friend, your spouse, even someone else’s spouse!

Time: 6:00p.m. – 10:00 p.m.  Parking – free and lots of it.

$40 for one person, $70 for two. Tables of 8 for $280.

Pictured above, Will Raiman, the director of the Open Door Free Meal Program accepts a check for the 50//50 raffle proceeds from the Allston Board of Trade.

The 50/50 raffle held during the Allston Board of Trade annual dinner raised $255.00.  The winner of the raffle, Janet Magni of Peoples Federal Savings Bank, generously opted to donate her half of the winnings back to the food pantry rather than keeping it for herself.  Thanks to her generosity and that of our guests at the dinner, we are glad to be able to have turned over these funds to help the Open Door Free Meal Program provide free food to those in need in the Allston community.

The Open Door Free Meal Program operates out of the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church at 62 Harvard Avenue Allston, MA.  For more information, call 617-787-7625.
